PV/ESS Design Coordinator

Location: Bellingham, WA

We are seeking a PV/ESS Design Coordinator to support the Senior PV/ESS Design & Project Manager in developing comprehensive feasibility studies for renewable energy projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems (ESS) design and possess analytical and communication skills. This role will require the ability to collaborate with a team and work independently. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting detailed and accurate feasibility assessments for solar plus storage projects.

  • Support the Senior PV/ESS Designer in assessing the feasibility of financial, environmental, resiliency, and utility benefits of a potential project and make recommendations based on optimal system design.

  • Collaborate with the Senior PV/ESS Designer in evaluating project risks and making recommendations on timeline, equipment availability, installer capacity, and utility approval requirements.

  • Gather and analyze site information during site visits, including roof access, roof condition, and equipment siting for PV modules, inverters, and ESS equipment.

  • Support the Senior PV/ESS Designer in developing detailed site maps, roof layouts, PV system layout, structural analyses, permitting, fire risk management plans, equipment recommendations, and preventative maintenance plans for PV and ESS.

  • Assist in assessing interconnection factors such as electrical infrastructure capacity, transformer capacity, grid capacity, and support in developing detailed and accurate single-line diagrams.

  • Assist in developing project scope and timelines, including critical tasks and project phases.

  • Perform energy analyses, including utility rates assessment, demand profiles, and articulate resiliency benefits when appropriate.

  • Provide financial analysis support, including developing detailed (itemized) project budgets, financial summary, funding options, rebates, incentives, and cash flow analyses.

  • Assist in assessing and communicating the environmental benefits associated with each project.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or 3+ years of experience installing PV/ESS equipment (01/02 electrical license preferred).

  • NABCEP Certification preferred.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Strong understanding of solar energy principles, energy storage technologies, and interconnection processes.

  • Knowledge of current renewable energy regulations, incentives, and market trends.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-experts.

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as Google Suite, Microsoft suite, Xendee, PVsyst, HOMER, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Aurora, Helioscope, Energy Tool Base, etc.

  • Familiarity with Washington State PV system design regulations, permitting processes, and industry best practices.

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a team.
