
Project Developer
Location: Bellingham, WA (Remote within WA and OR considered)
Travel Requirements: This position involves periodic travel within Washington and occasionally throughout the western U.S. to meet with prospective clients, strategic partners, industry stakeholders, and to attend relevant conferences, workshops, and networking events. Travel frequency and duration will vary depending on project development phases, market opportunities, and partnership-building needs, typically including day trips and occasional overnight stays.

Compensation: $80,000-$110,000 base plus commission and profit share
Est Total Compensation: $140,000-$315,000

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Developer to support public and private clients interested in developing commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar, storage, and microgrid projects. This role will be responsible for establishing and maintaining partnerships, originating projects, identifying new revenue-generating opportunities, and supporting the company’s strategic expansion beyond the Pacific Northwest (PNW).
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced mission-aligned professional to drive clean energy deployment across utility, commercial/industrial, tribal, and municipal sectors, while positioning Cascadia Renewables as a first mover in wholesale energy storage and emerging day-ahead markets in the PNW.
You will interface with state and local governments, ESCOs, EPCs, project developers, financiers, utilities, tribal nations, commercial/industrial businesses, emergency managers, energy managers, and other partners to grow CR’s portfolio of community-aligned clean energy, energy storage, and microgrid projects at the distribution and wholesale level.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Generation & Opportunity Tracking (40%)

Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including direct-to-client engagements, strategic teaming arrangements, and co-development deals.

Respond to public and private RFPs, RFIs, and grant solicitations for DER, BESS, and microgrid deployment independently and in partnership with technical leads.

Develop prospect pipelines, manage CRM entries, and track opportunity progress through lifecycle stages.

Collaborate with technical, legal, and financial teams to support pricing, scoping, and proposal development.

Partnership & Market Development (30%)

Collaborate with managing partners to build and manage long-term relationships with strategic public partners, including national laboratories, utilities, transmission/distribution balancing authorities, utility regulators, state and local governments, tribal governments, building and fire authorities having jurisdiction, emergency managers, and energy managers.

Collaborate with managing partners to build and manage long-term relationships with strategic private partners, including commercial and industrial businesses, project developers, clean energy EPCs, energy buyers, clean energy equipment providers, battery energy storage manufacturers, and balance of system suppliers.

Identify emerging clean energy needs within new and existing markets, particularly related to distributed storage, resiliency, and decarbonization.

Represent CR at industry events, conferences, and roundtables, building visibility and trust across sectors.

Wholesale Market Strategy (20%)

Support CR’s strategic positioning for wholesale energy market participation, including standalone and aggregated storage projects.

Lead market intelligence on day-ahead markets, ISO/RTO rules, resource adequacy, and grid service participation.

Help establish partnerships or pathways to deploy BESS assets for participation in CAISO, WEIM, and other evolving energy markets (SPP/Markets+).

Collaborate on technical and financial modeling for new market-facing storage project opportunities.

Help define CR’s market entry strategy for priority regions beyond the PNW, including CAISO, SPP, ERCOT, NYISO, MISO, PJM, and Alaska.

Internal Strategy & Brand Development (10%)

Work with the executive team to shape CR’s business development roadmap and market positioning.

Contribute to marketing materials, capability statements, and responses to partner inquiries.

Provide cross-functional support to the design, engineering, and policy teams as needed during early-stage project pursuit.
Minimum Qualifications
-
5+ years of experience in business development, project development, or partnerships in the renewable energy or clean tech sector.

Deep understanding of distributed energy, storage, or microgrid project lifecycles.

Proven ability to lead external relationships across public, private, and tribal sectors.

Strong writing, negotiation, and proposal development skills.

Familiarity with the DER ecosystem, including energy storage policies, wholesale market structures, and utility engagement strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with distribution-scale and utility-scale energy storage and renewable energy development.

Understanding of wholesale market dynamics (e.g., CAISO, WEIM, SPP, MISO, PJM, ERCOT) and grid service revenue models.

Familiarity with grant funding (DOE, CEC, FEMA, tribal resilience funds, etc.).

Comfort responding to complex RFPs, teaming agreements, and regulatory filings.

Experience working with tribal nations or local government clients is a plus.
