Senior PV/ESS Design & Project Manager

Location: Bellingham, WA

(Remote positions possible in WA State)

We are seeking a skilled PV/ESS system Designer with a strong background in project management to join our team and help us develop comprehensive feasibility studies for renewable energy projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in photovoltaic (PV), energy storage systems (ESS), and microgrid design. This role will require excellent analytical and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of the key steps outlined by Cascadia Renewables to ensure a successful project. Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed and accurate feasibility assessments for solar plus storage and microgrid projects

  • Ability to develop/review single line diagrams

  • Evaluate project risks and make recommendations on timeline, equipment availability, installer capacity, and utility approval requirements

  • Gather and analyze site information during site visits, including equipment siting for PV modules, inverters and ESS equipment

  • Assist in the  development of detailed site maps, roof layouts, PV system layout, structural analyses, permitting, fire risk management plans, equipment recommendations, and preventative maintenance plans for PV and ESS

  • Electrical equipment layout plan/mapping in accordance with relevant NFPA and NEC 

  • Assess interconnection factors such as electrical infrastructure capacity, transformer capacity, grid capacity, and develop detailed and accurate single-line diagrams

  • Provide insight on project scope and timelines, including critical tasks and project phases

  • Collaborate on site energy analyses, including utility rates assessment, demand profiles, and articulate resiliency benefits when appropriate

  • Assist in creating financial analysis, including developing detailed (itemized) project budgets, financial summary, funding options, rebates, incentives, and cash flow analyses

  • Assess and communicate the environmental benefits associated with each project

Qualifications:

​

  • 5+ years experience in PV/ESS system design and project management

    • OR​ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and current/valid WA State stamp  

  • NABCEP certification

  • Knowledge of NEC articles: 480, 690,691,705, 706, 710, 712, 720 

  • Knowledge of NFPA articles: 1, 13, 70, 853, 855

  • Understanding or interest in PV module and PV inverter manufacturing, handling, and installation best practices

  • Understanding of solar energy principles, energy storage technologies, and interconnection processes

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Knowledge of current renewable energy regulations, incentives, and market trends

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines (PMP certification or equivalent project management certification is a plus)

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-experts

  • Knowledge of renewable energy project installation, from site evaluation to financial analysis

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as Google Suite, Microsoft suite, Xendee, PVsyst, HOMER, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Aurora, Helioscope, Energy Tool Base, etc

  • Familiarity with Washington State PV system design regulations, permitting processes, and industry best practices

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a team
